Why Your About Page Is Your Secret Sales Weapon

I was looking at a site for inspiration this week and noticed something I see all the time: their about page was basically a placeholder. Just a blurb about what year they started the company and a stock photo of downtown.

Here’s the thing: your about page is one of the most visited pages on your site. People click it when they’re on the fence. They want to know who’s behind the business. So if it’s vague or generic, that’s a missed opportunity.

I prefer to think of an about page as a sales page in disguise. It might not be the first place you would think to put your call to action. But it’s actually your opportunity to frame who you are in regards to your customers (and specifically how you’re going to help them!)

Tell the real story. Make it about them, not just you.

A Few Quick Tips

Here are a few quick marketing and website tips:

  • Don’t bury your personality. People want to hire people, not logos.
  • Keep your home page to the point. If your homepage is feeling cluttered, move “why choose us” content to the about page.
  • Use Loom or a simple phone video to introduce yourself. Doesn’t need to be fancy at all!
